King dreamed of a fair and peaceful world where everyone had equal access to opportunities.Throughout his life, and in this famous speech, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., University of Idaho undergraduates, graduates and professional students enrolled for the spring semester are invited to write an essay or create an artistic piece in the medium of their choice in response to a prompt about equality and social, racial and ethnic justice.

The Missouri NEA Human Rights Committee is sponsoring the 2019 Dr. Essay-Poster Contest for K-12 public school students. King: Looking Back and Moving Forward" is the theme for the 2019 contest.
Winners are chosen at several levels: K–1, 2–3, 4–5, 6–8 and 9–12.
Gift cards are awarded to first-place ($50), second-place ($30) and third-place ($20) winners in each of the five categories.
Teachers of winning students will receive a gift card.
During the MLK Holiday Breakfast Celebration, the MLK Scholars are presented to the Community.

King and his work in the civil rights movement, relevancy to essay theme, originality of ideas and clarity of expression, personal perspective, organization, grammar, and guidelines. All essays submitted become the property of Ohio University Southern and may be displayed on the website, in other university publications, or in locations throughout the community. Children of Ohio University Southern faculty and staff are not eligible.
