Sally's Fruit Punch is a scaling problem involving changing a recipe for fruit punch for one glass into a recipe for ten glasses.In the challenge, you have to firstly work out the ingredients you need, and then work out the cost of the ingredients.This challenge is great for developing real-life math solving problems involving money and measures.During Third Grade, the Math work extends to place value up to 10,000.By the end of 3rd grade, most children should be able to add and subtract numbers to 100 mentally, know their multiplication tables up to 10 x 10, and make simple estimates. Ten of her students are great at word problems involving addition, and only 7 seem to understand subtraction word problems.Five of her students are bored with the easy problems.Thirteen students are still struggling with basic math facts and 3 have trouble reading the word problems at all. Issue #2: Flexible Thinking Many kids are taught to solve word problems methodically, with a prescriptive step-by-step plan using key words that don’t always work.Plans are great, but not when students use them as a crutch rather than a tool.Good for odd and even practice as well as adding three small numbers together and strategic thinking.We have a range of easier word problems at our 2nd-grade-math-salamanders website.
