Tom Sawyer promises much--robbing stages, murdering and ransoming people,kidnaping beautiful women--but none of this comes to pass.The slaves were able to seek some revenge when nightfall came or when the master or mistress was not around.In one instance a male slave woke up early one morning before everyone else and killed his owner’s hogs.The slaves told the owner that the hogs had a disease, but in reality the slave beat the hogs to death with a mallet.Since the owner thought it had a disease he gave all the meat to slaves in fear of becoming sick himself.There was a parrot in the kitchen, and when she tried to cover up the cookies to hide them from the mistress the parrot started squawking, and the mistress walked in and caught her.The same female slave killed the parrot afterward for telling on her.He soon comes back, but, even though he becomes somewhat comfortablewith his new life as the months go by, Huck never really enjoys the life ofmanners, religion, and education that the Widow and her sister impose uponhim.Huck believes he will find some freedom with Tom Sawyer.The slave had to kill the hogs because his family was starving to death, and the master was hardly providing for them, so he had to take matters into his own hands or watch his family suffer.There was another time when a female slave was whipped for stealing the cookies that she had baked.
